Long run planned for today. 7 miles DONE! This was a good opportunity to see where I am as far as pace for long distance. This run was at an average pace of 14:25 with a run:walk ratio of 5:1. I felt GOOD! I was also excited because I was sporting my new running shoes and socks!
I ended up going with the Asics Gel US Trainer. I think I need to run just two more months before I try dropping back down to my true love, the Vibram 5 Fingers. It’s good to have a trainer and race shoe anyway, so these two will ultimately be them for me. I can alternate depending on distance and feel.
I signed up for my first virtual race and decided to target a 10k distance. Although today was more than that, it is not the PR I want to start my year off with. I’m going to give myself at least two more weeks of training before I officially count a race toward this cool ass medal
There wasn’t much thinking on today’s run, which was AWESOME! Mindful meditative long run was just what the doctor ordered. Just like that, running brought me back up to a state of happy (different from yesterday). Power beats for today were Happy by Pharrell and I Do by Toya. It started to feel fatigue around mile 5 but could still carry a conversation.
The difference was definitely in the shoes. My legs didn’t feel as heavy and the fatigue was coming from my thighs, which I could attribute to the distance not the shoe. It’s time to start strength training and maybe some yoga. This helped me a lot before.
The rest of the day was pretty chill. I took a short nap, read, kids’ stuff, and even sat down to enjoy a movie. I have to make sure I get my reading done for my new virtual book club! This Pandemic is really altering the way we live, although not all bad. I don’t think I would have given myself time to even think about a book club, much less start meditating and just resting.
