Marathon training day 10…

Today was hard! I missed writing about my run yesterday because I was busy drowning my sorrows in a 3+hour bubble bath and a bottle of wine! Ugh! I cried heartbreak and pain that I must have been holding in for a very long time because the pain was coming from deep inside my chest, and it HURT. The plan was to hideout for a bit from everything and just relax. I’d been feeling the pressure and stress build up from the past 4 months, and I knew I needed to stop and regroup before I really lost it. I never expected the turn this “me time” would eventually take.

I gathered everything together in my bathroom, my fancy wine glass, the wine, my book club book, and of course my phone for the music. That’s when it started, the music! I think I relaxed a little too much! Everything was good until that second glass of wine (I’m not a big drinker, so it doesn’t take much ha ha… ). Anyway, I let it all out. All the heartbreak from each of my two marriages. The sadness of love lost, broken, and damaged. My poor comrades (the lucky 3 that got the drunk texts and call!!!). I eventually made it out of my “cave” and to bed. This was the reboot I needed for sure, and I had a run in the morning!

Before I jump into today’s run though, let me recap a little of what I learned from yesterday’s run. In short, I run a faster average pace when I apply my run:walk ratios as opposed to trying to straight run my entire distance. The walk breaks help my overall endurance, so I will continue to train using this method. It’s how I trained when I ran all my other races, so why try to fix something that’s not broken! I literally did not improve my time by running straight through this tempo 3 mil run (13:25 pace, 40 min).

Now for today’s run. Today, my plan called for a 5 mile base run. Those are my stats at the top. I am extremely happy about how this run went (considering the night before!). The app I am using for my marathon training plan is called Run With Hal. I really like the tips it gives for each run and am impressed with how my weekly miles are increasing with no sugar coating. I have a goal and this plan is going to get me there! I think I’m going to be stuck on this darn 13 mil pace for awhile though, which is not bad just sayin’.

Busy work day today too! I am so looking forward to taking a vacation soon! Darn COVID!
