Marathon training day 68… second life

So definitely not a triathlon like my awesome friend Christina, but I did start off my day with 9 great miles! This is my longest distance in 8 years….. I’M BAAAACK BITCHES! Boy how I’ve missed long runs at White Rock lake! I literally felt myself smiling all the way around the lake!

I started out early because I needed to be done before 8 a.m. Kid duties and avoiding the Texas heat. I have to admit though, I was a bit scared to start my run in the dark. That is of course until I took off and realized that there are plenty of other crazy people just like me out running this early and some even earlier. By the time I was warmed up and on mile two I had already stopped three times to take pictures of the beautiful sunrise over the lake…

Since my last post I’ve had some good runs in my Vibrams. I’m officially back to barefoot running! It has however taken some adjustment. My ankles and a couple of toes still hurt on longer runs but nothing serious. There’s a toe on my right foot that cramps up, so I think I’m going to tape it with KT tape on the next run. Other than that very happy with my barefoots…

I also celebrated my 45th birthday on July 23rd and started my first course in my PhD program on the 27th. Lots happening in 2020 for this girl! I had a friend phrase it as starting my “second life”. What a perfect title for my 2020!

For my birthday I treated myself to a mani/pedi, bought myself some Micheal Kors shoes, had lunch with my family, and enjoyed dinner and wine with two fabulous friends. I also escaped a couple of days to the Texas coast with my three kiddos. Thanks to Covid this trip was so relaxing because there were hardly any people out! I probably should not have been out either, but I’m sure glad I did it. It was much needed R&R. My youngest have grown up on the coast, so it was pretty much like going home for a couple of days. The best part was that I was able to enjoy a 7 mile run along the shore…

I have six months to go before my marathon. The weeks to come will consist of adding miles and some speed work. As of now I’m looking at a 6hr PR, which is far from my previous 4.5hr. If I can keep it closer to 5 hrs I’ll be happy. Too early to tell where I’ll be in 6 months. All I can do is keep training. Happy Running!
