Marathon training day 126… the long run

Well I did it. I finally broke free from the 10 mile max wall I had been hitting the past month. Monday’s 14 mile long run was awesome! Perfect weather and a semi-new route. I did not get out as early as I had planned, but it was still perfect.

I decided not to worry so much about speed this time and just concentrate on holding a steady pace throughout the entire length of the run. Run/walk intervals of 3 min run/30 sec walk are working great, so no plans to adjust anytime soon. I know that with time my speed will improve, and I will eventually get back to a more desirable pace. For now, this works.

Recovery time post run is also going really well. I have a rest day before and after my long runs and have gone back to resistance training. Ugh… I hit the gym yesterday for my last training session with that trainer and told her we were breaking up ha ha… I am changing gym locations to one that is closer to me in hopes that it will motivate me to go more often. I love the feeling resistance and weight training gives me, it’s just the getting there and actually doing it that pains me soooo much!!

I am also working on cooking more and not skimping on meals, which is hard to do with such a busy schedule. Going back to basics and following a simple routine is best. K.I.S.S. = Keep it Simple Stupid, as my old history teacher used to say (before saying stupid wasn’t front page news for offending someone… yes, I said that… ). Anyway, keeping all things simple for busy people like me should be a code of conduct and I volunteer to be a crash test dummy.

Stop insisting that multi-tasking is achievable without something failing. There are only 24hrs in a day and only one of you. Set goals, yes, but don’t let the goals set you. Take time to breath and baby just have fun! Our minds are our most precious gifts and if we don’t take care of our minds, the soul, spirit, and eventually the body suffers. Remember to fuel and hydrate properly and most importantly remember to stop and give thanks to the most high for the gift of breath. Like I’ve always said when asked how my day is going, “I woke up today, everything else is icing”.

I saw this on a social media site and loved it… If there are two things a runner can do it’s eat and drink A LOT! Happy trails everyone! Until the next long run (Monday I have 15.1 planned).
